Favorite Books from 2015

Since 2016 is getting closer by the hour, I thought I would write a post about my favorite books that I have read in the year 2015. These books might not have been published in 2015 but they are books that I have read. Now to the books.

Title: Stolen Songbird
Series: The Malediction Book 1
Author: Danielle L. Jensen
Publisher: Strange Chemistry

Synopsis:

For five centuries, a witch’s curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realises that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.

Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time…

But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for…

Rating: In my previous review I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars.  I truly enjoyed the world of the trolls and Cecile as a main character. Throughout the entire book I remember thinking of how much of a delight she is, that might not be the right word for it but it sounds right in my head. I really valued her heart and the way she made her choices. This one was big for me because in this book the trolls seemed like such terrible beings and she found a way to open her heart to them. Another thing that I also enjoyed was the politics that were within the book. There was so much going on that it really made me want more just so I could understand where Tristan was coming from and why he made some of the choices he made. The world of the trolls is not what I thought it would be and it is not what even Cecile thinks it is. Not everything is as it seems and in the world of the trolls actions speak louder than words. The relationship between Tristan and Cecile is complicated, romantic, but complicated, and did I mention that it is complicated? This book had me crying  towards the end. I even went and got the second book right away. I feel like that should say a lot because I usually ponder the book for a few days and then once I feel ready and have accepted what has happened in the first book, I will then move on to the second book. When it came to this book that didn’t happen. The second book was just as amazing as the first and I truly enjoyed that book Hidden Huntress, just as much as I enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on the last book in the series!

Title: Of Beast and Beauty
Author: Stacey Jay
Publisher: Delacorte Press

Synopsis:

In the beginning was the darkness, and in the darkness was a girl, and in the girl was a secret…

In the domed city of Yuan, the blind Princess Isra, a Smooth Skin, is raised to be a human sacrifice whose death will ensure her city’s vitality. In the desert outside Yuan, Gem, a mutant beast, fights to save his people, the Monstrous, from starvation. Neither dreams that together, they could return balance to both their worlds.

Isra wants to help the city’s Banished people, second-class citizens despised for possessing Monstrous traits. But after she enlists the aid of her prisoner, Gem, who has been captured while trying to steal Yuan’s enchanted roses, she begins to care for him, and to question everything she has been brought up to believe.

As secrets are revealed and Isra’s sight, which vanished during her childhood, returned, Isra will have to choose between duty to her people and the beast she has come to love.

Rating: In my original review I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars and I stick by that rating. This book was beautiful and I loved every moment. Even though I felt as if my emotions were played with and pulled every which way, I still loved this book and I love the fact that it is based off of Beauty and the Beast which is also my favorite. Out of all the characters in the book my favorite character is Isra. I was so intrigued by how even though she started off with such strong beliefs of what she thought was right and in turn becoming close minded to what anyone else had to say she really opened up and saw the world through new eyes. Even as the book progressed I feel she had a good amount of character development. As for Gem, he broke my heart several times throughout this book. His dynamics with Isra and not only her people but his people  kept me at the edge of my seat while reading this book. I loved this book and the one thing that I am very upset about is that there isn’t a sequel to this amazing book. Everything that you need from this world is all in this one book. I feel that this world is so beautiful and was so gorgeously written that I just need a second or maybe even third book from this series.

Title: The Paper Magician
Series: Paper Magician Series Book 1
Author: Charlie N. Holmberg
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishing Group

Synopsis:

Ceony Twill arrives at the cottage of Magician Emery Thane with a broken heart. Having graduated at the top of her class from the Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined, Ceony is assigned an apprenticeship in paper magic despite her dreams of bespelling metal. And once she’s bonded to paper, that will be her only magic… forever.

Yet the spells Ceony learns under the strange yet kind Thane turn out to be more marvelous than she could have ever imagined — animating paper creatures, bringing stories to life via ghostly images, even reading fortunes. But as she discovers these wonders, Ceony also learns of the extraordinary dangers of forbidden magic.

An Excisioner — a practitioner of dark, flesh magic — invades the cottage and rips Thane’s heart from his chest. To save her teacher’s life, Ceony must face the evil magician and embark on an unbelievable adventure that will take her into the chambers of Thane’s still-beating heart—and reveal the very soul of the man.

Rating: I gave this book a  4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the word that the author created in this book. This book was a light read, in my opinion, because I honestly read this book in less than 24 hours. I loved the characters in this book, especially the paper magician. I feel like he would understand how I organize my room. Everything has a place but to everyone else it looks like a mess. Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book and I can’t seem to stop saying it, is the world that the characters live in. Magic is such a captivating topic and for me the way the magic was described and how the magic comes to be was very well thought out, simple, but thought out. If you are looking for something that has magic, is a little bit of a historical fiction because of the time and place of the story, and romance then this is the book you should be picking up. I already finished the second book and if you want to see the review for that click here

Title: The Kiss of Deception
Series: The Remnant Chronicles Book 1
Author: Mary E. Pearson
Publisher: Square Fish

She flees on her wedding day.

The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide. Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance.

Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

Rating: I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. At first I was a little unsure of this book. To be honest the only reason I really picked this book up was because everyone was talking about. It was quick in the beginning with the Princess and her side of the story. Then, to me the story started to get slow and I lost interest here and there. I pushed through the book and I am glad I did. The Princess started off as a spoiled child, in my opinion, however, as the book progressed, I slowly started to see the change in her. I grew to really like her and her growth as a person and as a character in this book. This book even showed that there is a price to war and how kindness can really change someone. I was a little upset with how the book ended. I know the author did this so people would buy her second book and it worked. I did buy her second book, I have it on my TBR shelf but trust me when I say it will be read. If you are someone who is looking for something that has fantasy, romance, adventure, and I would consider this a slight dystopian, then you will definitely like this book.

Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses
Series: Court of Thorns and Roses Series Book 1

Rating: I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars. If I could go above a 5 I would! This is the first book to the trilogy and if you like something that is fantasy and a beautifully retold version of Beauty and the Beast then you will want to pick this book up. The way the author describes not only the magic, the world,  but the characters beautifully. You will not be disappointed in picking this book up. I am so excited that the second book comes out in 2016, I have already pre ordered it.

Well that is my list for my personal favorite books of 2015. Comment below and tell me what your favorite books of this year are.
